Meet the hosts

Dr. Elizabeth Bobeck

Dr. Elizabeth Bobeck has received her PhD from UW-Madison and two Post-doctoral positions in nutrition and immunology. She joined the Iowa State University Animal Science Faculty in January 2016, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. She has mentored students, published a vast number of articles, and her research and teaching efforts focus on the poultry industry from different angles with the same intent: to use nutrition to improve poultry health, productivity, and welfare. She strives to solve current industry issues and anticipate future industry needs using unique approaches.

Dr. Doug Korver

Dr. Doug Korver received a Ph. D. in nutrition from the University of California, Davis, and joined the University of Alberta in 1997. In addition to practical research on feedstuff quality and dietary supplement evaluation in poultry diets, Doug’s work focuses on nutrition-immune function interactions and bone biology in meat- and egg-type poultry. He has authored or co-authored over 75 peer-reviewed articles, and 10 book chapters. In 2016, he spent a 6-month sabbatical in Colombia, working with a major broiler integrator. He is currently part of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s committee to revise and update the 1994 Nutrient Requirements of Poultry. In 2023, he started Alpine Poultry Nutrition, Inc., with a vision to communicate the science of poultry nutrition to end users in the poultry industry.

Dr. Phil Stayer

Dr. Philip A. Stayer is a private poultry veterinary consultant since June 1, 2023, and previously worked at Wayne Sanderson Farms for over 20 years. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University (B.S.) in 1986, the University of Tennessee (D.V.M.) in 1989, and Mississippi State University (M.S.) in 1991, earning ACPV diplomate status in 1994. Dr. Stayer was actively involved in multiple professional associations, including NPIP, ACPV, AAAP, and more. He contributed to Secure Broiler Supply and the 2022 NCC Poultry Welfare Audit update. Dr. Stayer also served as adjunct faculty at Mississippi State University and North Carolina State University, mentoring numerous students during his tenure at Sanderson Farms.

Dr. Pratima Adhikari

Dr. Pratima Adhikari is currently an Associate Professor in the Poultry Science Department at MS State University. She graduated with her doctoral degree in Poultry Science from the University of Georgia in 2017 and MS in Animal Science from the University of Manitoba in 2013. Dr. Adhikari has 60% research and 40% teaching appointments. She teaches the Management of commercial layers, Undergraduate seminars, Graduate–level nutrition classes and has co-taught Avian Anatomy and Physiology and Undergraduate Nutrition. Dr. Adhikari currently mentors 3 PhDs and 3 MS students, have graduated 5 graduates and has several undergraduates in her lab. Her research broadly focuses on nutrition and gut-health management of egg-laying hens, alternative feed ingredients, enzyme research, low protein, and sustainability, and nutritional interventions against Salmonella and E. coli. Dr. Adhikari has provided her research talks at 4 international-level and 3 national-level meetings. Dr. Adhikari also advises the Nepalese Students Association. Her hobbies include traveling, trying new food, and reading novels. At leisure, she spends almost all of her time with her toddler son and husband.

Meet the founder

Dr. Marcio Goncalves

Dr. Marcio Goncalves earned his veterinary degree from UFRGS, a top university in Brazil, and his PhD in applied swine nutrition from Kansas State University and worked as Global Nutritionist for one of the major swine genetic companies where he led nutrient requirement updates, diet formulation & feeding program for nucleus farms, development of nutritional economic models, and reviewing diets from over 100 customers. Currently, he is the founder of Wisenetix, the largest network of podcasts in the agriculture industry.

He has over 15 years of experience in swine production with exposure to over 20 countries and 120 research studies in pig nutrition/production and his life purpose is to create a positive impact in the world through knowledge dissemination in the global ag industry.
