The Swine it Podcast Show Canada - #15 - Optimizing Sow Nutrition: The Power of Precision Feeding Techniques

the swine it canada podcast Jun 30, 2023

Precision feeding optimizes pig health and performance by tailoring diets to meet individual requirements, minimize waste, and maximize efficiency. In other words, it improves feed efficiency through targeted interventions, the management of nutritional imbalances, cost savings, and the promotion of sustainability in swine operations. To discuss the application of and research on precision feeding, I talk to Laetitia Cloutier, M.Sc., who brings a lot of experience with this method in sow herds. She provides us with some great insights on how precision feeding works for sows in practical terms; what nutrition adjustments are needed when compared to traditional feeding; what some key implementation strategies consist of; and what the main obstacles that the producer might face when implementing it on the farm are.
