The Feed Science Podcast Show - #27 - Dr. Marco Antônio Ebbing: Feed processing and broiler physiology
Jan 03, 2024Today, I welcomed Dr. Marco Antônio Ebbing, a postdoctoral researcher at Auburn University. Dr. Ebbing shared insights from his extensive research on how particle sizes and processing methods, like expansion, can drastically influence the quality of feed pellets and the performance of broilers. We discussed the nuances of grinding methods, the role of expander machines, and the critical balance between pellet quality and production rates against the backdrop of rising ingredient costs.
What you’ll learn:
- The role of expanders in feed mills
- How to improve pellet quality
- Biggest challenges in animal nutrition
- Lack of silos to accommodate different ingredients
Meet the guest:
Dr. Marco Antônio Ebbing is a postdoctoral researcher at Auburn University. He pursued a PhD with research focused on feed processing for broilers, examining its effects on feed quality, machine efficiency, nutrient digestibility, and broiler performance at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. He also completed a Master's degree in Animal Science, focusing on broiler breeder trace minerals nutrition and evaluating the performance of the breeders, hatchery, and progeny. He holds an undergraduate degree in veterinary medicine, and both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees were completed in Brazil.
